Dark beer brewed using caramel and dark malts, this beer features a pleasant malty-caramel flavor balanced by a delicate hop bitterness. While light beer has significantly more followers than dark beer, dark beer is valued for its higher content of reductones and melanoidins, which are formed during brewing from dark and caramel malts. These compounds possess antioxidant properties that help protect cell membranes from the damaging effects of free radicals and may contribute to slowing oxidative processes in the body. The beer’s rich dark color and distinctive malty aroma are provided by melanoidins formed.
